Humans

Three races of Humans exist in the realm of Verintos.
  • The humans of the Kingdom of Verintos are basic fantasy medieval-types, but for a few key differences. For one, they tend to consider anyone who uses magic that is unaffiliated with the temples with a degree of suspicion, and they are definitely made nervous by elves.
  • Dark humans have been scattered by the orc migration, the bulk of them living northwest of Verintos, and west of the Braileks. They live in a feudal government, the rulers all of one bloodline, making the easiest method of advancement marriage to a noble. Otherwise, there is no true way to escape one's rank at birth. Their religion mainly consists of the worship of nature instead of the Gods, and many nature druids are created here.
  • Braileks are discussed lower down on the page.

Elves

Must be approved by the founder, if they originate in the Kingdom of the Sun. Otherwise, these are just like any other elf, locked in eternal struggle with drow. (Note: Elves have a high tolerance to alcohol, but get drunk with the consumption of sweets. So far, Verintos humans are unaware of this little detail as they usually drink sweet alcohol when celebrating.)

Half-Elves

Born either after the First War or rather recently. Oldest will be over 200, next oldest 70 to 0. (Note: Alcohol/Sugar tolerances at discretion of player, just keep character consistent.)

Werewolves

While not completely accepted, the humans shared an alliance with them in the last war. Several sided with the people of the Sun however, and when the Goddess Trepas reigned they were well-known for their aid in the cruelty she inflicted. Temoth holds them dear for their survival in his reign and cares greatly for their future.

Braileks

The Braileks are an Asian race divided into the three governments themselves.
  • The Shisei are a feudal government living to the west, with equal hands in the arts and military. They are united under one emperor, who gives titles and land according to effort and success in different areas, but he is the only one who judges crimes and sets laws. His family has been in power for five generations, and most of their laws take after their worship of the Dragon, limiting how one is allowed to act, dress, and worship.
  • The Danhtu are a specialized group, living in the eastern part of Brailek lands. Their government is an elected parliament, their focus mainly on not upsetting the dragons and working on the airships. While the Shisei help, their work is mostly in use of airships, such as adding cannons and brokering deals with other nations, whereas the Danhtu are focusing on making the ships themselves, using their neighbors the dragons as inspiration as well as ships of the sea.
  • The Thamranath live mostly in the northern zone, in nomadic clans led by priests. They are a warrior class, but they are also known for their breeding and training of horses, which are famous across the continent, and soon will find their way to Verintos (Think Arabians compared to Quarterhorses).

Minotaurs

An old race, but with little written history, half of their population is clannish, living a nomadic life among the Thamranath's tribes. The males of these tribes hunt and are hired for mercenary and grunt work, while the females are taught embroidery, beading and jewelcrafting, so that they may sell the items made to other tribes or into the cities. The other half of the population has integrated itself into the populations of Brailek towns and cities, holding any number of jobs and often seen as commonplace productive citizens. A human of Verintos running into one of these would indubitably be shocked and alarmed by such a creature.

Dragons

This ancient race has been around so long they've begun to ritualize their everyday lives, especially once the Braileks began to worship them as gods over 400 years ago. As a race, they're stagnating, only a few rebelling. Either they will begin to fade in a few centuries, or recognize their slump and return to normalcy.

Zarkul

The Zarkul live in a jungle environment. Their habitat rings around a large central mountain, the volcano spewing forth gases and other things besides. The Zarkul quickly learned how to smith ores scattered by the volcano into weaponry and armor. And inseting these special gems in their weapons and armor, allowed them to withstand spell casters of considerable power. Cities sprung up with the addition of population. High in the thick canopy of the jungle trees, these cities began to flourish. But with the addition of society, so came the eventual addition of slavery. Slaves live on the jungle floor, caged in metal and precious stone. None who try to escape, if they even try to escape, live to tell about their ordeal. The Zarkul live pleasent, if not a barbaric lifestyle. And with their goddess X'ies demanding tribute, most if not all of their slaves are sacrificed to their Volcano Goddess.

Drow

The Drow are an offshoot of the elves, ebony-skinned and evil-spirited. They dwell in a vast network of underground caverns known by the humans as 'the Underdark' and the elves as 'the Black Realms'. They are known as 'The Accursed' by the elves, and in general are a hated and feared race. Drow society is strongly matriarchal, with females holding all positions of power and responsibility in government, the military, and the home. Males serve as the fighters and protectors, and can become priests and wizards of minor power.

There are four known drow 'deities' (in truth, demons serving as divine powers), Lolth (the Spider Queen), Eilistraee (the goddess of song), Ghaunadaur (the "Elder Elemental God", or That Which Lurks), and Vhaeraun (the god of thievery and the furthering of drow power in the surface world, mostly worshipped by males). The majority of drow society worships Lolth, but there are separate cities and groups oriented around one of the other drow deities. These drow are rarely talked of and thought of as scum to Lolth-serving drow.

Typical drow trust no other creatures (especially other drow), and are known to be paranoid and treacherous. Extermination of all other elven races and the seizing of their surface lands is a main goal of Lolth-serving drow, but this has not yet come into fruition as the drow are mainly busy warring amongst themselves. There are good drow, most living on the surface to escape their violent kin, but these are uncommon and most of them still possess typical drow traits (paranoia, aversion to light and the love of darkness, a tendancy to chaos and trickery, and a warlike nature). Drow in general live for and revel in the power of magic, as magic is considered a mysterious and beautiful art-form very close to their gods. Clerics and wizards are common in drow society, and strongly melee-oriented fighters are mostly found in the ranks of soldiers and protectors.
